Alternative Therapies Group
About Alternative Therapies Group
On Grove Street in Salem, this Essex County retailer is one of the longer-running cannabis operations in Massachusetts, with a substantial review count topping 1,270 over years of service. Massachusetts legalized adult-use recreational cannabis in 2016 under the Cannabis Control Commission, and the company also serves medical patients through its dual-licensed structure. With a 4.2-star average, reviewer experience is mixed: some shoppers appreciate the selection and medical patient discounts for new sign-ups, while others have flagged frustration around no-refund policies on edibles and disposable vape failures. Reading the menu carefully and inspecting packaging at the counter is worth the extra minute. Hours run Monday and Tuesday 9 AM to 7 PM, Wednesday through Friday 9 AM to 8 PM, and Saturday and Sunday 9 AM to 7 PM. Expect Massachusetts-grown flower, pre-rolls, vape cartridges, concentrates, edibles, tinctures, topicals, and accessories. Bring valid government-issued ID showing age 21 or older for recreational purchases, or a state medical card if shopping under the medical program for higher purchase limits and reduced tax.

Nice selection and medical discounts for new patients. Other than that, stay away from the Nimbus disposable vapes. I bought one thats dead out of the package and they have signs up saying they arent returnable or refundable so clearly its an ongoing issue. I've never seen such signs at any other dispensary.
So I was just there and bought cannabis gummies. I got home to find out they sold me a giant blob of a gummy. I took it back to the store in less than 10 minutes and all they tell me is that they can’t do anything about edible products. Apparently the store policy is we don’t exchange or refund edible products regardless. This is their way of saying we will not take any responsibility for the quality of edible products sold to customers from this store. Maybe that’s why their edible prices are lower than others. Either way this is the last time I will go there. I’ve been going to this place for years.
Great service. Always quick and speedy. Wish the prices were a little bit less but you do get what you pay for- never had an issue w any strains I’ve gotten here. Good selection and close to home. Pre order thru dutchie is key! Thanks ATG
I have visited many recreational locations since the legalization. By far this is the worst service and set up I have experienced. I believe today we are more careful with our money and being a bit older I value service and assistance. I was charged 40% more for the same pre roll I get next town over. Stood in line for 12 minutes behind the only other person in the establishment. Multiple workers doing various tasks of counting and putting stock away. NO one offered to assist in any way. Twelve minutes later the only counter person sells me a $20 pre roll after tax. I get where I am going we light it up and it will not smoke. Infused and rolled so tight we could not even draw a hit. Cut it open and made a bowl out of a can like the old days. Yeah we made stuff to smoke back in the day. Enough about that, they will never see my money again!
Other recreational dispensaries made sure customers had umbrellas on opening day and the days after. They opened on Saturday and I went on Sunday, see receipt. Verilife in Wareham even had coffee and pizza, and when it rained they gave us umbrellas for the hour wait next to the dispensary. This Salem dispensary let people smoke cigarettes in line and in front of the door. I did really like the woman working outside and she provided menus to the line. She was answering lots of questions, was so nice and kept the line happy with her enthusiasm even though it was bitter cold. It was pouring and freezing on the 16th, and they had no warming tent. Their tent was small with open sides, not enclosed and everyone was crowding underneath this tiny covering that could only fit the start of the line. A lot of people are scheduled for one appointment, making the line go only 8 at time and a total wait over 3 hours. I arrived at 4 pm because I was warned about the line being long and I had a 5:00 p.m. appointment and did not get out until 7 p.m. after the dispensary was supposed to close. They only had four budtenders total for recreational. But, Verilife only had two and the line moved so quickly with the staff constantly asking if we had questions in line and they did a Pax Era promo that gave you a $1 smartphone enabled vape if you bought one cartridge. The product at ATG was okay, nothing special to pay 21% tax and the budtenders could have been working at Walmart from their demeanor and unhappy attitudes. The adult menu was never released on the WEBSITE or Leafly, selections were super limited, not enough product for the wait and I was looking to buy the Bakked brand for concentrates, but it was only for medical patients. If this is your first dispensary experience avoid this place, it feels like a prison and choose any of the others. There is a condemned building right next to the dispensary overlooking the parking lot. I don't like their plastic packaging or the atmosphere inside. The sketchy parking along a dark street was daunting if you're a female, and unfriendly police. Salem has enough tourists already. Go to Verilife or NETA, or research better places. ATG accused me of writing a false review, so I updated my review with several photos, my receipt and more details. Obviously, they need to address their problems and not deny them.
